Buford Softball opens 25th season against Walnut Grove

The Buford Wolves will begin their 25th season of fastpitch softball Aug. 13, with a road contest against the Walnut Grove Warriors. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Thursday’s game will mark the 25th meeting between the programs in a series that dates to 2009. Buford holds a commanding 21-3 advantage in the previous 24 matchups.

The opener begins another highly anticipated season for a Buford program coming off a perfect 36-0 campaign and its 13th state championship. The Wolves enter 2026 riding a 36-game overall winning streak, a 41-game regular-season winning streak and a 64-game winning streak in region play.

Buford has posted a 100-3 record during the past three seasons, winning state championships in 2023 and 2025. The Wolves have also won 29 consecutive home games, 26 straight contests against opponents from the same classification and eight consecutive postseason games.

Following Thursday’s opener, Buford will travel to the Twin Creeks Softball Complex in Woodstock for two games in the GADC Lead-Off Classic.

The Wolves will face East Paulding at 6:30 p.m. Friday before concluding the weekend against Kell at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Buford enters the season with a 709-145-3 all-time record, including a 493-101-3 mark in regular-season play and a 216-44 postseason record. Since 2004, the Wolves are 292-33-1 at home, 170-27-1 on opponents’ fields and 211-61-1 at neutral sites.

The program’s decorated history includes 16 region championships, eight Final Four appearances, one state runner-up finish and 13 state titles. Buford won 10 consecutive state championships from 2007 through 2016 before adding titles in 2022, 2023 and 2025.

Under head coach Trent Adams, the Wolves have compiled a 160-8-1 overall record. That run includes a 122-3-1 regular-season mark, a 70-2 region record and three state championships. Buford is also 82-2 at home and 117-7 against opponents from the same classification during the Adams era.

The Wolves will compete in Region 8-7A this season, while Walnut Grove represents Region 8-6A.

  • Friday, Aug. 14 — vs. East Paulding at Twin Creeks, 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 15 — vs. Kell at Twin Creeks, 1 p.m.
