BUFORD — Another sport has cause to inspire pride in Buford residents. The Buford boys and girls tennis teams do well year after year and this year is no different. The girls have a 5-0 record including 2-0 in region play so far this season while the boys are 4-1, 2-0.
Buford’s number one singles players of Alexandria “Alex” Mann and Brady Todd are the backbones of this program this season but they have depth that goes beyond Mann and Todd. Buford’s number two singles players, Callie Perkins and James Trout, along with the number one doubles of Sydney Grothe/Izzy Brewer and Zac Harms/Matthew Maurer and number two doubles of Kennedy DeLoach/Taylor Ryczek and Grayson Gilbert/Nick Keller help give Buford the edge they need to continue their winning ways.
On Monday, March 9, Buford hosted Johnson at Buford City Park. Both Buford boys and girls won 5-0 over the Knights. Girls number one singles Mann was 6-0, 6-0 while number two singles Perkins won 6-0, 6-1. Number three singles Kylie McCammon also won her match with set scores of 6-0, 6-2. Number one doubles for the girls of Grothe and Brewer went 6-0, 6-0 for the win and the number two doubles of DeLoach and Ryczek were also 6-0, 6-0. Boys number one singles Todd won both sets 6-0, 6-0 to take his match. Number two singles Trout was 6-0, 6-0 to claim his match and number three singles Leyton Grothe took both sets with scores of 6-0, 6-2. Boys number one doubles of Harms and Maurer were 6-0, 6-0 to claim their match and number two doubles of Gilbert and Keller also won their match with set scores of 6-0, 6-1.
