WINDER — Both the boys and girls varsity tennis teams sweep Winder-Barrow 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Victor Lord Park in Winder.
Dean Kingsley, playing at No. 1 singles, defeated Winder-Barrow’s Emory Dage 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 2 singles spot for Buford was James Troutt who beat Jeremy Herr 6-0, 6-0. For Buford’s No. 3 singles, Matthew Maurer shut out opponent David Jaimes 6-0, 6-0.
Playing in the Wolves No. 1 doubles spot was the duo of Leyton Grothe and Nic Keller. The pair won against the Bulldoggs’ Francisco Anguano and Jackson with scores of 6-0, 6-4. Eugene Oh and Luke Clark, in Buford’s No. 2 doubles spot beat Winder-Barrow’s pair of Thomas Huff and Wyatt Herndon 6-1, 6-0.
The Buford boys’ overall season record has improved to 4-4 and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA.
For the Buford girls tennis team, Taylor Aycock claimed victory over Winder-Barrow’s Chesney Loggins in the No. 1 singles position with scores of 6-0, 6-2. Playing in the No. 2 singles spot for the Lady Wolves was Callie Perkins. Perkins won her match over Lindsey O’Connor with set scores of 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 3 spot for Buford was Berkley Clark who beat Winder-Barrow’s Sara Lo 6-1, 6-0.
The Lady Wolves No. 1 doubles team of Kennedy Deloach and Kylie McCammon defeated Shaylyn Mackellar with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Winder-Barrow’s No. 2 team of Anabeth Lassiter and Kathy Park were no match for Buford’s duo of Taylor Ryzcek and Sophie Brewer as the Lady Wolves beat them 6-0, 6-3.
The Buford girls’ overall season record is now 5-3 and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA.
Both Buford tennis teams will travel to take on another region opponent Dacula on Thursday, Mar. 11, 2021, at 4 p.m.
