Buford tops Mountain View 7–3 at Gerald McQuaig Field

BUFORD — The Buford High School varsity baseball team defeated Mountain View High School 7–3 on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Gerald McQuaig Field to secure the second game of a three-game Region 8-6A series.

Senior Kyle Krause earned his first win of the season for the Wolves, pitching three innings while allowing two hits and two runs, one earned, and striking out six.

Mountain View took an early 1–0 lead in the first inning after a Buford error and a wild pitch. The Wolves responded in the bottom of the inning when singles by senior Ayden Lockett and junior Ryan Johansen helped produce the tying run.

Buford moved ahead in the second inning, scoring three runs with two outs behind a combination of hits, walks and a hit batter to take a 4–2 lead.

The Wolves extended their advantage in the third inning after junior Payton Walker led off with a double and two Mountain View errors allowed Buford to push the lead to 6–2.

Lockett opened the fourth inning with an infield single and later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7–2.

Mountain View added a run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly but could get no closer.

Junior Andrew Williams pitched the final four innings to earn the save, allowing two hits and one run while striking out five.

Lockett led the Wolves at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. Sophomore Lio Garcia added an RBI and a run scored, while Walker contributed a double and a run.Buford improved to 5–0 overall and 2–0 in Region 8-6A play. The Wolves were scheduled to travel to Mountain View on Feb. 27 to conclude the three-game series, with first pitch set for 5:55 p.m..
