CARROLLTON — Buford’s runners supply the school with its five first-place finishes at the Class AAAAAA GHSA State Track & Field Championships held May 13-15, 2021, at Carrollton High School.
Isaiah Bond had the most first-place finishes of the meet winning the boys 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and was part of the winning 4 x 100-meter relay team.
Sydney Harris led the girls with a win in the 400-meter dash and as a part of the 4 x 400-meter relay team. Harris reached a new personal record during the state meet in the 400-meter with a time of 53.67. This performance was the fastest of any high school female throughout all classifications in the state in this event this year. Harris finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.29.
The Buford boys 4 x 100-meter relay team of Bond, Victor Venn, Malik Williams and KJ Bolden turned in a time of 41.58 to take first place. Their best time in this event was reached at sectionals on May 8 with a time of 40.95 and was the fastest time in the state this year throughout all classifications.
The Buford girls 4 x 400 team of Harris, Tavye Border, McKenzie Smith and Trinity Price turned in their best time of the year during Saturday’s finals with a time of 3:47.67 which took first place.
Caroline Snell broke the school record in the pole vault with her third-place finish with a height of 11 ft. even. Her twin sister Callie Snell finished fourth with a height of 10 ft. 6 in.
The girls team was the Class AAAAAA GHSA State Runner-Up while the Buford boys finished fifth.
After the State Championships results were in, Buford remained atop the Georgia Athletic Director’s Association Cup standings for Class AAAAAA. Buford has amassed 696 points while the closest competitor, Richmond Hill has 647 points.
