Haunted attraction returns at new Margaritaville at Lanier Islands location beginning Sept. 25
BUFORD — The Buford Trail of Terror will open earlier than originally planned for the 2026 Halloween season, with its first night now set for Friday, Sept. 25, at Margaritaville at Lanier Islands.

Organizers said what had been planned as a soft launch will instead serve as the attraction’s opening night. The seasonal haunted experience also will feature extended hours on several dates through Nov. 7.
The attraction is relocating to Margaritaville at Lanier Islands this year and will combine haunted-house elements with an outdoor trail experience. Guests will move through 13 scenes featuring original characters, monsters inspired by local lake lore and familiar horror-themed figures.
Organizers recommend the attraction for guests 16 and older unless accompanied by an adult. The experience includes outdoor terrain and a variety of walking surfaces, including sand.
Regular admission is $34.99 per person, while groups of 15 or more can purchase tickets for $24.99 per person. Fast-pass admission is $64.99 for individuals and $49.99 per person for groups of 15 or more.
Guests who buy tickets online will have the Lanier Islands Resort gate fee included in the ticket price. Those purchasing tickets at the attraction will also be subject to the resort’s $20 per-vehicle gate fee.
The Buford Trail of Terror is scheduled to operate on select Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 25 through Nov. 7. Hours vary by date, with some nights running as late as 1 a.m.
Special events are also planned throughout the season. Fireworks are scheduled for Oct. 24, while Halloween night, Oct. 31, will be the only night guests are permitted to wear costumes. Organizers also plan to award a prize for the best costume.

On select nights, younger guests can take part in behind-the-scenes tours and meet performers from 6 to 8 p.m. The season also will include “Glow Nights,” featuring blue-light effects, along with rotating live entertainment such as DJs, a performance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and live rock music.
