The Buford volleyball team is heading to Leesburg, Ga. on Wednesday to take on Lee County in the quarterfinals of the GHSA Class AAAAAA state playoffs. The Lady Wolves were able to advance following their win on Saturday over Richmond Hill with set scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-16.
Junior Ashley Sturzoiu and senior Mikayla Hayden led the offense for the Lady Wolves with 10 kills each. Sydney Austin contributed with eight kills. Polly Cummings had 33 assists on the day.
Buford’s defense was led by Dylan Cummings who had 14 digs.
Buford’s road trip will make the three-and-a-half-hour trip to play Lee County on Wednesday. Lee County is the No. 1 seed in Region 1-AAAAAA with an overall season record of 25-17. They are ranked No. 15 in the state’s Class AAAAAA rankings according to MaxPreps. Buford is also a No. 1 seed but in Region 8-AAAAAA. The Lady Wolves have an overall season record of 34-4 and are ranked No. 2 in the state’s Class AAAAAA rankings on MaxPreps just behind Sequoyah. Buford will be the favorite to win this match-up.
