Buford Wolves baseball rolls past Discovery 13-1 in Region 8-6A matchup

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — The Buford Wolves continued its dominant run through Region 8-6A, defeating Discovery 13-1 in a run-rule shortened contest Monday, March 30 at Discovery High School.

The Wolves wasted no time taking control, scoring five runs in the first inning behind a string of extra-base hits and disciplined at-bats. Senior Javy Ojeda drove in a run with a double, senior Mason Litt followed with a two-run double, and Buford capitalized on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single from Graham Young to build an early lead.

Buford added to its advantage throughout the game, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to trigger the run rule.

Ojeda led the offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored. Litt matched him with a 3-for-4 performance, including two doubles and three RBIs. Junior Ian Chafin added two hits, drove in two runs and drew a walk, while sophomore Lio Garcia contributed a double, a sacrifice fly, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.

Junior Walker Taulbee (5-0) earned the win, allowing one hit with no runs over one inning of work. Buford’s bullpen combined to keep Discovery in check, with seniors Kyle Krause and Maddox Degon and junior Carson Reeves each tossing scoreless innings in relief.

The Wolves finished with 12 hits, drew six walks and committed no errors defensively.

Buford improved to 18-2 overall and remained perfect in region play at 13-0. The Wolves return home Wednesday, April 1, to face Discovery at Gerald McQuaig Field, with first pitch scheduled for 5:55 p.m. Senior Night festivities will take place prior to the game.
