Brandon Marsh, a 2016 Buford High School graduate made his major league debut on Sunday for the Los Angeles Angels in their game against the Mariners. Marsh was called up to the big leagues to help fill in the ranks in the team’s outfield where he started in center field. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Angels’ 7-4 loss to the Mariners.
Injuries have plagued Marsh with his most recent stint on the injured list coming from an inflamed right shoulder. He returned to the game on July 9, 2021, playing for Triple-A Salt Lake, a part of the Angels organization. Marsh has had a productive time since returning from the injured list batting .382 with two homers, two doubles, two triples and six RBIs in eight games.
Marsh, 23 was the Angels’ No. 1 ranked prospect before Angels’ manager Joe Maddon called him to help the team out. The Angels have all of their usual starting outfielders out on the injured list. Even as the starters begin to return to play, Maddon told MLB.com that he expects Marsh to play in the majors for the remainder of the year. Marsh is expected to split the duties at center with Juan Lagares.
The Los Angeles Angels drafted Marsh in 2016 in the second round signing him to a $1,073,000 contract.
Marsh was a dual-sport athlete during his time at BHS playing both football and baseball. During his senior year, Marsh batted .559 with four home runs, 25 RBIs, 19 stolen bases and a 1.545 OPS. He had originally committed to play baseball for Kennesaw State University but opted instead to sign with the Angels.
