SUGAR HILL — Sophomore Olivia Duncan pitches the first-ever no-hitter of her varsity softball career when Buford played Lanier at Lanier on Monday. The game was called after just four innings with Buford up 12-0 over Lanier. This game was Buford’s final regular-season game.
Buford went undefeated in Region 8-AAAAAA with a final region record of 15-0. The Wolves are the Region 8-AAAAAA champions which is their first region title in Class AAAAAA and the 12th region title since the program’s inception in 2002.
Duncan pitched all four innings against Lanier giving up no hits or runs, walking one, and striking out seven batters. Duncan’s overall record is 9-1 on the season.
Freshman Mackenzie Pickens was once again one of Buford’s offensive standouts as she went 3-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs. Freshman Tavye Borders was 2-for-2 with a sac fly, two RBIs and a stolen base. Senior Emmy Hall was 1-for-2 at the plate where she hit a triple, earned two RBIs and scored a run. Senior Abbi Perkins rounds out the offensive standouts where she was 1-for-3 where she hit a triple, earned an RBI and stole a base.
Buford finishes up their regular season with an overall record of 26-4, 15-0 in the region.
The Wolves will host the first round of the state playoffs on Monday, Oct. 19. Buford will have a double-header with the “if necessary” third game on Oct. 20. Opponent is TBD.
