Cat Perishes in Buford House Fire

At approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019, Gwinnett County Fire Department responded to a call of a house fire in the 500 block of Power Avenue in Buford.

A woman and her chihuahua were able to get out of the house without injury. Unfortunately, her cat did not make it out alive. Firefighters located the deceased cat. The lady has been a resident of Buford for over 40 years.

The house suffered extensive damage.  The heaviest damage appears to be around the living room and front porch area. The exact cause of the fire is not known at this time.

Two fire engines, an ambulance, and various other first responders were on the scene.

The victim was waiting on Red Cross to respond to the scene.  

Fire crews are still on scene investigating and looking for belongings of the victim. The official statement from the Gwinnett County Fire Department has not been sent out to us yet. We will keep you updated as we learn more details.
