The city of Suwanee is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy, a program that allows citizens to gain a better understanding of the role of police officers.
Classes for the free seven-week program will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays beginning April 11 at the Suwanee Police Training Center at 2966 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. The program will conclude Monday, May 23.
During the program, participants will have an opportunity to patrol the city with an Suwanee police officer.
Preference for program admission will be given to Suwanee residents or those who work in the city. Criminal and driver history background checks are required for all applicants.
Applications must be notarized and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Thursday, April 7. Applications can be dropped off any time at the city’s main police department at 373 Ga. Highway 23 across from Town Center Park or between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at the Police Training Center.
