The city of Suwanee has released detailed information on its proposed $15 million FY 2022 budget with plans to hold two public hearings prior to the city council’s vote on whether to adopt the budget.
Under the proposed budget, the city will maintain the same millage rate at 4.93 mills, which has remained consistent over the past nine years, dating to 2013. The city will adopt its millage rate in August. Property tax revenues, which include taxes on real and personal property, motor vehicle, mobile homes and intangible taxes, are expected to increase by 16.6 percent as compared to the amended FY 2021 budget, and are estimated at just over $6.7 million or 44.5 percent of budgeted general fund revenue.
The proposed FY 2022 budget includes a 1.4 percent decrease in operating revenue and a 2.1 percent increase in operating expenditures, as compared to the FY 2021 amended budget.
The city’s highest expenditures under the proposed budget include $5.6 million for police services and $3.7 million for parks and public works. Those two areas account for 63 percent of proposed expenditures.
The city of Suwanee will hold public hearings on the proposed FY 2022 budget at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, at City Hall, 330 Town Center Ave. The June 10 hearing will coincide with the city council’s monthly workshop, and the June 22 hearing will be held in conjunction with the council’s regular monthly meeting, where the council is set to vote on approval of the proposed budget.
