The numbers released at noon on Tuesday by the Georgia Department of Public Health is alarming. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has risen by 1,008 in just 24 hours. The new total number of cases is now 3,817. The death toll rose by 21 to 108. Those needing hospitalization from the virus are 818 making space and resources at some area hospitals a premium.
Females make up 51% of the total number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus while males comprise 46%. The remaining 3% are unknown. Females with the virus have increased by 2% since yesterday while males have decreased by 2%. The 18-59 age group continues to see the most cases with 58% of the total COVID-19 cases which is a 1% increase since yesterday. The over 60 group is unchanged at 35%, the under 18 group remains 1%, and the unknown group has decreased by 1% to sit at 6%.
Gwinnett’s total number of new coronavirus cases has risen by 75 since noon on Monday, March 30. 233 people are now confirmed to be infected with the virus. COVID-19 has now claimed the life of two people in Gwinnett County. Fulton continues to be the hotbed of the outbreak with 547 cases (+84), followed by Dougherty with 455 cases (+188), Dekalb has 325 (+44), and Cobb with 272 confirmed cases (+27). The new numbers from other highly impacted or nearby counties are Bartow 129 (+8), Hall 65 (+31), Forsyth 43 (+10), Barrow 18 (+11), and Jackson 7 (+5).
The new numbers released by the CDC has the new total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. at 163,539. That is an increase of 22,365 new cases since noon on Monday. The death toll has risen to 2,860. New York is overwhelmed with the number infected which is at 67,131. Makeshift hospitals are being constructed in New York City’s Central Park to help ease the burdens on the city’s hospitals which are busting at the seams. California is second in the nation with 6,909 infected.
With the dramatic increase in the number of confirmed cases in the state, it’s vital that everyone follows the orders to stay at home and practice social distancing of six feet or more if one must go out into public. Wash your hands often, cough and sneeze into the bend of your elbow, and seek medical help if you begin to experience symptoms of the virus.
