The Georgia Department of Public Health releases numbers for the coronavirus pandemic twice a day, at noon and 7 p.m. On Thursday at 7 p.m. the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state is 5,444. Of that number, the state hospitals are treating 1,129 people for the virus. To date, the coronavirus has claimed the lives of 176 people in the state.
Females make up 52% of the total number of people in the state with the virus while men comprise 46%. The remaining 2% are unknown. The 18-59 age group is still leading with 58% of the total cases. Over 60 is 36%, the under 18 group is still at 1%, while the unknown group is 5% of the total cases of COVID-19.
Gwinnett County now has 303 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. Eight people in the county have now died as a result of COVID-19. Fulton continues to have the most cases at 747 with 23 deaths. While Dougherty County is second for the total number of cases at 521, it has the most deaths in the state with 30. Dekalb is third with 409 cases and Cobb is fourth with 341. Other counties that have been heavily impacted or are nearby are Clayton 165, Bartow 153, Hall 72, Forsyth 53, Barrow 20, and Jackson 11.
The CDC is reporting that 213,144 Americans have now been infected with the coronavirus. The total number of Americans that have now lost their lives to the virus is at 4,513. New York is simply being overwhelmed with the number of COVID-19 cases. They have 84,735 people with the virus and New York City is the epicenter of the outbreak. New Jersey is second with 22,255 infected. Michigan is third with 9,334 cases of COVID-19.
The World Health Organization’s numbers are creeping up on the one million mark at 900,306 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the world. There have been 45,693 deaths in 205 countries, territories, or areas worldwide. The United States continues to outpace the rest of the countries with the most cases. Italy still has the most deaths at 13,157. They have 110,574 cases of the virus. Spain has broken the 100k mark for confirmed cases with 102,136 and 9,053 deaths.
Gov. Brian Kemp put into place a statewide Shelter in Place Order effective at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2020, and is set to end on April 13, 2020.
All public K-12 schools have been canceled for the remainder of the school year.
