Staff Reports
The Gwinnett County Police Department is reaching out to the public in hopes that someone can help identify a couple wanted for theft at an unincorporated Buford restaurant.
The incident took place at La Madeleine restaurant located at 1795 Mall of Georgia Boulevard in unincorporated Buford on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. A man and a woman sat down to dine and the woman placed her purse on the floor next to her seat.
Police said that another couple sat close to them. The man was seated directly behind the victim with his torso turned towards her. The woman was overheard saying, “She saw you. She saw you.” A waitress noticed the odd behavior and told her supervisor. By the time the waitress and supervisor went to confront the suspects, they had left the restaurant.
It was at that time that the victim noticed her wallet was missing from her purse.
The supervisor was able to obtain the license plate and vehicle description that the couple was in. When the license plate was run, it came back to a man who no longer owned the vehicle. A few years ago it was listed as a junk vehicle and no longer fit for the road.
