SUGAR HILL — Crime has taken a sharp increase this month along one stretch of a Sugar Hill road. The Voice noticed the spike in crime during the course of their daily look at crime data for their coverage area. Property crimes such as theft by taking, vehicle break-ins, and motor vehicle thefts were the most common types of crime along Sycamore Road in Sugar Hill during the first half of September. Data for the second half of the month has yet to be released.
On September 9 at 8:36 a.m. a vehicle was reported stolen in the 1400 block of Brookdale Drive. The victim last saw his gray 2015 Volkswagen Jetta with a Mexico tag around 5 p.m. the previous evening when he parked it at his residence. He went to go to the gym the next morning at approximately 6 a.m. and the vehicle was missing. The victim stated that he was the only one who had a key and that he was positive he locked his doors.
Several crimes occurred on September 11 along Sycamore Road. A vehicle was broken into and a Visa credit card was stolen at a residence in the 1300 block of Autumn Woods Trail. The credit card was used at the Racetrac at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Cumming Highway in Sugar Hill and at a local QT as well. The estimated time of the incident was around 10:30 p.m.
Also on September 11, a 2019 Toyota 4Runner that had a temporary tag with less than 1,000 miles was stolen from the driveway of a home in the 1200 block of Autumn Wood Trail. The victim said he last saw his vehicle the night before and when he came out the next morning, the vehicle was gone. He also stated that he knew the doors were locked and that he had the only two sets of keys in his possession.
At 1:30 p.m. on September 11, a report was filed for theft by taking in the 1300 block of Summer Hill Court. A woman told the officer that she saw an unknown male walk down her driveway and steal her son’s bike in footage from her security camera. In the footage, it was hard to make out details of the suspect.
A man is offering a $10,000 reward in an incident that took place on September 16 at his home on Highway 20 in Sugar Hill near Sycamore. The victim said his vehicle was broken into and countless items were stolen from inside of the vehicle. The items stolen were i-Macs, servers, a large quantity of sports memorabilia and more. The victim posted photos on social media of security footage he got of the suspect in hopes he would learn the suspect’s identity.
These incidents are just what has been reported to officers and what Gwinnett County has released. It is not known if more incidents have happened during the first half of this month. If you have been the victim of a crime and chose not to report it, you should. Here is why. Even though you may never learn who the criminal was or get your stolen items returned to you, still report it. The reports are put into the Gwinnett County Police Department’s system and the data from those reports help the department know where to send additional patrol officers thus deterring crimes from taking place.
