Former Buford TE Isaac Nauta was taken in the 7th round of the NFL draft on April 27, 2019, by the Detroit Lions. Nauta played at Buford in 2014 his junior year and finished his high school at IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida. Nauta was rated as the #1 TE coming out of high school.
He later signed with the University of Georgia for 2016-2018 where he was a vital part of Coach Kirby Smart’s offense his first year. However, in the last two years has been used sparingly in Georgia’s run offense.
He became the 7th Bulldog to be drafted and 5th on the last day, joining Deandre Walker, Riley Ridley, Terry Godwin, and Georgia’s center, Lamont Gaillard, Deandre Baker went in the first round to the NY Giants while Mecole Hardman went in the second round to the Kansas City Chiefs. His combined workout was one he would like to have over and may have affected his draft status.
Nauta who is the 224th pick in the draft will join fellow Georgia Bulldog alum and Lions QB Matthew Stafford in Detroit.
