SUGAR HILL — After being postponed on Tuesday due to rain, Buford and Lanier were able to play their game on Friday afternoon at Lanier High School. The Wolves hold onto their lead in Region 8AAAAAA with an 8-4 victory over the Longhorns.
Sophomore Chloe Hatcher (2-0) pitched 5.3 innings for Buford. She gave up six hits, four runs, and struck out three batters. Freshman Emma Grace Williams got the save pitching for .3 innings where she gave up a walk. Hatcher returned to the mound but would turn it over to Morgan Sullivan to finish.
Recording the loss for Lanier was senior pitcher Carly Forrester. Forrester would pitch the entire game for the Longhorns.
Junior Taylor Malvin led the Buford offense going 2-for-4 with three RBIs earned, scored one run, and stole two bases. Senior Emmy Hall was 1-for-3 on the night earning three RBIs. Freshman Madison Pickens went 2-for-3 earning one RBI on a double and she scored two runs.
Senior Alissa Miner stole home to put Lanier on the scoreboard. Forrester had an RBI single and scored a run and freshman Devon Kokoszka also had an RBI single.
Buford’s overall record improves to 7-2 and is still undefeated at 4-0 in the region. Lanier’s record drops to 5-5 overall and is 1-3 in the region.
Buford’s next game is against North Forsyth at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 31 at North Forsyth High School.
Lanier travels to play in the Hog Mountain Invitational at North Oconee High School on Saturday, August 29. Their first opponent is Elbert County at 11 a.m. and then they play Commerce at 1 p.m.
