The Gwinnett County Police Department has announced it is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens Police Academy.
“The mission of the Gwinnett County Police Department Citizens Police Academy is to create and develop a growing nucleus of responsible, well-informed citizens who want to learn more about their police department,” a news release announcing the nine-week academy stated.
The Citizens Police Academy is open to all Gwinnett County residents age 18 and older older who successfully pass the application process and a driver’s and criminal history check.
Topics covered during the academy will include crime prevention, communications (911), criminal investigations, gangs, K-9, S.W.A.T, crime scene investigations, aviation, hazardous disposal unit, accident investigation unit, DUI enforcement, active threats, emergency vehicle operations, traffic enforcement, and use of force.
The Citizens Police Academy will he held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights from March 8 to May 5. An online application for those interested in attending the academy can be found here.
The deadline to apply is Thursday, Feb. 10. Applications received after the deadline will be considered for future Citizens Police Academy sessions. Applications are considered in the order they are received, and if selected, applicants will be notified by mail.
