Gwinnett County Police Department’s homicide unit recently identified remains found in 1982 using DNA from the victim’s daughter.
The remains, a female skull and some physical evidence, were found in woods off Deshong Drive in Stone Mountain, and at the time, it was thought the remains had been there for six to 10 years prior.
Janis Adams, the victim’s daughter, had submitted her DNA to a law enforcement database and her DNA was matched to the remains, now identified as Marlene Standridge.
“Janis Adams has so far spent her entire life never knowing what happened to her mother,” a news release states. “She did not know if her mother abandoned her as an infant, went missing from Atlanta or had possibly been murdered around 1972 or 1973.”
