In Summer 2010, the Greater Atlanta Montessori School (GAMS) opened its doors on North Berkeley Lake Road as the first Montessori School in the City of Berkeley Lake dedicated to providing AMI Certified Montessori education to children 12 months to 6 years old. GAMS adheres to the teaching principles of Dr. Montessori in a well-organized, beautiful and unthreatening environment.

With the desire to make Montessori education more accessible in Buford/North Gwinnett, the Greater Atlanta Montessori School offers extended day until 7:00 p.m. for working parents and is currently offering a low introductory rate.

“I have wanted to be a Montessori teacher since my own two children, now grown, attended a Montessori school.  The academic success they have enjoyed was grounded in their early years and has convinced me of the effectiveness of a Montessori education,” said Hannah Gentry, owner and Director of GAMS. “I love teaching children.  I believe teaching at the primary level is a critical responsibility and an especially rewarding one, as primary education is the foundation of one’s life.”

With the first Montessori Classroom founded by Maria Montessori in 1907 in Italy, Montessori education has been implemented for 103 years. Montessori education is experiencing a renaissance in the United States as a component of today’s school reform movement.  Multi-age classes, a rich and extensive curriculum implemented with hands-on materials, cross-discipline learning, and care and respect of people and the global environment are just a few of the innovative characteristics of Montessori education.

In a Montessori class, interactive learning occurs in an environment carefully prepared by an educator trained to work with children of that specific age group. In a non-graded class of mixed ages, the children spontaneously and independently use materials designed by Dr. Montessori. They choose their own activities and develop practical and intellectual abilities through individual discovery and exploration of language, mathematics, geography, geometry, art, and music.

“I have looked around Gwinnett and Alpharetta looking for the best value and education for my son.”  says parent Judith Faith, whose child is enrolled at GAMS.  “I looked into other Montessori’s but none was as close or as affordable as this one. Although it has just opened it has been a great experience for my son.”

Greater Atlanta Montessori School offers authentic Montessori education that helps each child reach their maximum potential by allowing them to exercise their natural curiosity and explore in a safe learning environment.  The children will experience the joy of learning.  The Montessori Method inspires independence, cooperation, self-confidence, and excellence.
