Staff Reports

For the second year, GreatSchools.org has compiled data pertaining to school-level college readiness, as well as, post-secondary data from each state.  The data reveals how many students enroll in college, are actually ready for college-level coursework, and whether or not they make it to their sophomore year of college.

GreatSchools takes their findings and they recognize 1,722 high schools from 25 states by giving them a GreatSchools College Success Award.  This award recognizes high schools that effectively prepare their students for college and for the students thriving once they get to college.

Three local schools receive about average ratings in their college readiness poll.  Buford High School is the top-ranked high school in this area scoring a 10 out of 10 on their index.  Buford is one of only three schools in all of Georgia to receive a 10 out of 10.  Lambert High School in Forsyth County and Lassiter High School in Cobb County are the two other high schools with a perfect 10 rating.

North Gwinnett High School is the next local high school on the list scoring a 9 out of 10 in their college readiness ratings.  Mill Creek also scores a 9 out of 10.  Collins Hill earns an 8 out of 10.  Schools scoring a 7 out of 10 are Lanier High School, Dacula High School, and Mountain View High School.

In nearby Hall County, Johnson High School is their top-ranked high school with a ranking of 7 out of 10.  Flowery Branch High School earned a 6 out of 10 ranking.

So it is safe to say that no matter where you go in northern Gwinnett County, the local youth are receiving a top notch education.  For more information on GreatSchools and their 2019 College Success Awards, click here.
