Although no reports of Coronavirus at the Gwinnett County Jail, a statement was released today by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office outlining measures being taken by the department. The release states the staff there have been working for weeks to implement additional health precautions including regular communication with county health officials and contracted medical providers to ensure the best prevention protocol available, is being followed.
Along with Coronavirus being added to the medical screening portion of the jails intake process, the release states that staff have also been educated on preventative measures and are ready to administer Coronavirus testing on-site should it become necessary.
“Protecting the health of staff, inmates and visitors have always been a priority at our facility. We’ve added these additional measures to our existing procedures to help promote healthy habits for everyone.”
In order to protect both the officers and subsequent arrestees from potential exposure to the Coronavirus, the interior of patrol vehicles are being disinfected after transports to the jail.
All visitors can expect to have their temperature taken with a touch-free infrared thermometer upon arrival to the jail until further notice.
Any visitors with an elevated temperature that warrants concern will not be permitted further entrance to the building.
