Gwinnett County Public Library is much more than books to be checked out and returned after reading — the library system is continuously updating its offerings that include virtual and in-person programming for kids, teens and adults, a mobile career lab to assist job seekers, a host of digital resources ranging from ancestry research tools to college planning guides and much more.
One of GCPL’s latest additions to its services is Kanopy, an ad-free video streaming platform showing thousands of titles, including popular movies, documentaries, foreign films, classic cinema, independent films and educational videos.
“The Library seeks to keep up with customer demand, and provide content in the way that customers choose to experience it,” Victoria Hopkins, director of marketing and communications, said of GCPL providing access to Kanopy for its patrons.
A library card number and PIN are required to register for the streaming service. Users have five credits per month, and each credit can be used toward one film or one season of a TV series that can be accessed for 72 hours after the titles are first watched. Content can be streamed to TVs, desktop computers, tablets and smartphones.
Kanopy also offers a collection of movies and shows for kids with unlimited access, from educational to entertaining content geared toward children ages 2 to 8. Parental controls are available to ensure children only access age-appropriate content while watching Kanopy.
Unlimited access to the Great Courses series is also offered for adults. From topics in history and hobbies to literature and sciences, users can learn from award-winning experts and professors from the most respected institutions around the world. Users can learn at their own pace with no schedule.
