Gwinnett County Schools holding virtual meeting on equity issues with the school system

The Gwinnett County Public Schools Board of Education will be holding a meeting on Jan. 11, 2021, to discuss equity issues within schools as part of their GCPS Talks Educational Equity series. This meeting will be the fourth after the Educational Equity Overview Meeting, the Student Meeting, and the Community Engagement meeting which are available on-demand on the GCPS website.

In this conference, they will be discussing the feedback given and the work done by the six equity teams within the county’s school systems whose main focuses are, “Teaching and Learning, Student Support, Community Engagement and Partnerships, Facilities and Assets, Human Capital, Leadership, and Staff.”

The Gwinnett County Board of Education says on the official website, “In Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), we define educational equity as providing access to ensure that all students have the knowledge and skills to succeed as contributing members of a global society, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, English proficiency, faith, socioeconomic status, or disability.”

GCPS is asking stakeholders to fill out a survey giving feedback/experiences with equity issues within the school district.  Stakeholders may give feedback on the six focus areas mentioned previously. All surveys must be submitted by Jan. 11. If you would like to attend this meeting, the GCPS Talks Educational Equity series is available via the GCPS TV app, on the school district’s webpage, and via your cable TV provider.
