On Friday afternoon, Gwinnett County Public Schools announced it will drop its mask mandate.
This announcement comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday afternoon it would drop its recommendation for universal school masking and recommend mask usage only in communities at a high level of risk.
A Friday afternoon press release stated: “In light of this updated guidance and Gwinnett County’s designation in the ‘Low’ level of community spread, Gwinnett County Public Schools will transition from requiring masks to strongly recommending the use of masks in its facilities.”
The message was sent to Gwinnett County Public Schools families and staff and posted on the district website and Facebook page.
District leaders will review and update quarantine and isolation procedures in the days to come.
