LILBURN — The Gwinnett County Fire Department is working the scene of a major train derailment along the CSX line in Lilburn.
The derailment scene extends along the line from Main Street in Lilburn to Harmony Grove Road. The impact of the line being tied up will be felt for miles as trains will be forced to stop and wait for the line to be cleared. This means that railroad crossings may be blocked temporarily with trains that have been forced to stop and wait for the rails to be cleared of the wreckage.
The Fire Department reports multiple cars that have derailed and an active fire involving hazardous materials. Evacuations are being made for residents to the north of the incident.
