BUFORD — Buford’s boys and girls tennis teams defeated Cherokee Bluff 5-0 on Thursday afternoon at Buford City Park.

The boys’ No. 1 singles match was Dean Kingsley for Buford and JC Foster for Cherokee Bluff with Kingsley winning 6-0, 6-1. James Troutt defeated Joshua Reynolds 6-0, 6-0 to give Buford the win at No. 2 singles.  The Wolves also won at No. 3 singles when Leyton Grothe beat Mason Smith 6-0, 6-2.

The Wolves’ No. 1 doubles team of Luke Clark and Matthew Maurer beat the Bears’ No. 1 doubles team of Cade Ellis and Connor Walker 6-0, 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, Buford’s team of Brent Sherman and Grayson Gilbert won over Cherokee Bluff’s Lee McDaniel and Seth Parks 6-2, 6-2.

Taylor Aycock playing in Buford girls’ No. 1 singles position, defeated Keely Merk of Cherokee Bluff 6-2, 6-1. Callie Perkins took the No. 2 singles match over Emma Ross 6-0, 6-0 giving Buford the win.  Buford’s No. 3 singles player Berkley Clark won 6-0, 6-1 over Cherokee Bluff’s Sara Stephens.

Playing at the No. 1 doubles spot for the Lady Wolves was the pair of Kennedy Deloach and Kylie McCammon.  The pair defeated Alli Lester and Presley Rosen with scores of 6-3, 6-0.  The Lady Wolves’ No. 2 doubles team of Taylor Ryczek and Sophie Brewer won 6-0, 6-0 against Lauren Marrath and Corey Hammond of Cherokee Bluff.

Both Buford boys and girls teams have an overall season record of 10-4.

They end their regular season with a region match against Habersham Central on Monday at Buford City Park.

Baseball

North Gwinnett  14    Peachtree Ridge  3

SUWANEE — North Gwinnett’s baseball team defeated fellow Region 8-AAAAAAA opponent Peachtree Ridge 14-3 on Thursday at North Gwinnett.

The winning pitcher for the Bulldogs was Michael Massey who struck out seven and allowed no runs in his five innings of work.

Leading North Gwinnett’s offense was Matthew Strand (2-for-3, home run, four RBIs), Spenser Hamblen (3-for-4, RBI), Tyler Hower (3-for-4, two RBIs), Gabe Hunt (2-for-5, three RBIs) and Ashton Long (two RBIs).

North Gwinnett’s overall season record is now 4-11 and 1-1 in their region.

The Bulldogs will once again play Peachtree Ridge at home.  That game is set for Friday at 6 p.m.

Lacrosse

Buford  21    Norcross  2

BUFORD — Buford defeated Norcross 21-2 on Thursday on home turf for their first area game of the season.

Leading the Wolves offense were Mickey Canavan (four goals, five assists), Jackson Rhodes (three goals, two assists), Nick Cambria (three goals), Ashton Daniels (two goals), Zack Salo (two goals), Evan Leonardo (one goal, four assists), Josh Voorhees (one goal, two assists), Nash Perry (one goal, two assists), Patrick Grey (one goal) and Josh Williams (one goal).

In the faceoff circle, Josh Williams was 18-for-20 for Buford.

Buford’s overall season record is now 6-5 and 1-0 in their area.

The Wolves play an area game next at John’s Creek on Tuesday, Mar. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
