A man who had been fishing from the shore just off of Ga. 347/Lanier Islands Parkway alerted authorities around noon after discovering the body of an adult female in the water just off the shore.
During the preliminary investigation, Sheriff’s Office investigators tentatively identified the woman and determined that her vehicle remained in the parking area near where the body was found, which was near the entrance to Lake Lanier Islands.DNR assisted the Sheriff’s Office in recovering the woman from the water and the body was sent to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Her name and age are being withheld until next of kin are notified. The death remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Along with the Sheriff’s Office, personnel with Hall County Fire Services, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the U.S. Army Corps responded to the scene.
