BUFORD — The US Army Corps of Engineers announced on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020, that they will drop the water level at Lake Lanier by the end of November.
The lake already transitions to a winter guide pool elevation which began on Oct. 1 to drop the water level to its winter level of 1070.0 feet. The Corps will drop the water level even further this year to the 1069.0-foot mark in order for headgate repairs at Buford Dam to be made safely. The lake’s current water level is at 1070.80 feet which is an increase of 0.07 feet since Friday due to the nonstop rain in the area since Friday morning.
The US Army Corps of Engineers says that it will take eight weeks of them gradually releasing water to drop the water level to their target water level of 1069.0 feet. The estimated date to reach that level is Nov. 30, 2020.
The Corps anticipates that the repairs will take three weeks to complete.
