Passers-by near Buford High School have observed hard-hat activity on the parcel of land located at the corner of Buford Highway and Robert Bell Parkway.
The 16-acre lot purchased for $1.8 million in 2018 is adjacent to 10 acres previously owned by the city. The site sits directly across from the new high school and is planned to be home to a new football stadium for Buford High School. Preliminary discussions for what is projected to be a 10,000-seat stadium included a parking deck and pedestrian crosswalk above Buford Highway between BHS and the complex for safety.
Charles Black Construction, which oversaw other recent Buford sports facility projects, including BHS’s Tom Riden Stadium, the Buford City Gym and Buford Arena, and built the new Buford High School on Buford Highway, is presently clearing the land on the property, raising hopes and suspicions in the community.
According to Buford City Manager Bryan Kerlin, “We had an opportunity to get trees cleared, and design starts in the spring.”
No plans have been approved at this time.
