Lanier
Lanier will continue their play in Class AAAAAA for 2022 but with an all new head coach at the helm of its program. Former Norcross assistant coach Tyler Maloof was announced in January as the new head coach for the Longhorns. There are high hopes for Maloof to be able to come in and turn the program around after a dismal 2021 season. Lanier was 4-6 last year under interim head coach David Willingham who took over for Korey Mobbs after he left for another job in Tennessee.
The Longhorns remain in Region 8-AAAAAA but their opponents have changed a good deal after reclassification. They no longer have to play Buford, Central Gwinnett or rival Dacula. Lanier’s 2022 region opponents are Apalachee, Gainesville, Habersham Central, Jackson County, North Forsyth and Shiloh. They begin their region play on Sept. 23 at Habersham Central.
