SUGAR HILL — Lanier High School is still a relatively young school compared to its neighbors and has struggled at times to emerge from their shadows. The students and staff at Lanier have done a great job over the years of helping to build their identity and create their traditions. This year Lanier took a huge step in establishing their place in the Sugar Hill community with the creation of their newest tradition, their annual Homecoming parade.
The inaugural Lanier High School Homecoming parade was held on Thursday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Sugar Hill. The parade traveled down West Broad Street past the new E Center and Sugar Hill City Hall ending at Hillcrest Drive.

The parade kicked off with a Gwinnett County Fire engine leading the way followed by the Mayor of Sugar Hill, Steve Edwards. The Longhorns Marching Band kicked off the start of the high school parade participants. The parade participants ranged from athletic teams like softball, baseball, cross country, football, and cheerleading to clubs like the Art Club, Key Club, FCA, Mock Trial, and Hope Club.
The parade was a big hit with the hundreds of spectators, especially the children that scrambled to pick up the candy tossed to them by those participating in the inaugural event. The spectators and participants alike enjoyed the food and entertainment at the Bowl arranged by the City of Sugar Hill afterward.
Young and old had a great time celebrating being a Longhorn and hopes that it will become an annual tradition.
