The Lady Longhorns basketball team from Lanier High School have already made school history by becoming their first ever region girls basketball champions. This did not stop these driven girls and now they are on their way to compete in the GHSA State AAAAAA Final Four this Saturday, March 2nd at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA.
Lanier clinched their Final Four appearance by beating Glynn Academy 41-32 on Wednesday night at Lanier High School. Both teams struggled to hit their attempts at scoring. In the first half, Mekala Fuller helped Lanier to pull out in front of Glynn and in the second half, it was Kalen Surles.
Mekala Fuller led the Lady Longhorns scoring 16 points. Surles contributed nine points, seven coming in the second half. She also had six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Christabel Ezumah put nine points on the board for Lanier and had 13 rebounds and two steals. Nala Lawrence added four points and had four rebounds and two steals.
The Lanier/Sugar Hill community is extremely proud of these ladies and are excited about their upcoming game on Saturday. Win or lose, this year’s Lady Longhorns team has cemented their place in Lanier’s history books. Congratulations ladies!
