A Lanier High School student has been nominated for a 2021-2022 Shuler Award.

ArtsBridge Foundation has announced the nominees for the 14th annual Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, and Viraj Ramgopal is nominated for best featured performer in the musical production “Footloose.”

The awards, which are named for the Marietta-born stage and screen star Shuler Hensley, recognize the best of the state’s high school musical theater students.

“ArtsBridge Foundation congratulates this year’s Shuler Award nominees from high schools across Georgia,” Jennifer D. Dobbs, executive director of ArtsBridge Foundation, said in a news release announcing the nominees. “Following two years of extraordinary pandemic-related challenges, this year’s competition felt closer to the traditional competition launched 14 year ago.”

Buford High School’s Grace Johnson received honorable mention recognition for best featured performer in the production of “Little Women.”

The Shuler Awards ceremony set for 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, will air live on statewide television via Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB-TV).
