Lanier High School student selected for state superintendent’s advisory council

Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods recently announced his selections for the Student Advisory Council for the 2023-2024 school year. These students will meet with Woods throughout the school year as advisors and will act as liaisons between the Department of Education and the students of Georgia.

“The primary goal of my Student Advisory Council is to provide a voice for students across Georgia to share their perceptions and ideas, and every year, they serve as a valuable resource as I make decisions that impact students across the state,” Woods said.

This year, 69 students were selected to join the council, which includes at least four students from every Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) region in Georgia. Lanier High School will be represented for the first time this year by junior Thaden Rumbaugh.

Selected students will meet with Woods throughout the year to discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students throughout Georgia. Members of the council will also discuss other education-related issues and serve as the superintendent’s ambassadors to their respective schools, and participate in service projects to benefit schools and students

“I enjoy meeting and learning about each council member,” Woods said. “Their feedback, opinions, and perspectives provide insight for me and Georgia Department of Education leadership and staff to make the best possible policy choices.”
