Lanier Islands Resort earns first Condé Nast Readers’ Choice nomination

Buford destination recognized after major investments to enhance year-round guest experience

BUFORD — Lanier Islands Resort has earned its first-ever nomination for the prestigious Readers’ Choice Awards from Condé Nast Traveler. This marks a milestone in the resort’s 52-year history.

Staff and leadership at Lanier Islands Resort celebrate the destination’s first-ever nomination for the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

The nomination places the Lake Lanier destination among internationally recognized resorts. It also reflects recent investments aimed at elevating the guest experience.

Resort officials said improvements in recent years include the addition of a new event venue, The Lakeside Chapel and Gardens. They also completed a $3 million renovation of rooms at Legacy Lodge and LakeHouses, and a $2.5 million upgrade to the Legacy Golf Course. Enhancements to the golf course include a redesigned clubhouse. In addition, they introduced Georgia’s only night-lit par-3 course, known as The Six.

“It is beyond gratifying to earn the attention of an international powerhouse like Condé Nast Traveler,” said resort president Matthew Bowling. “We’re proud of the momentum we’ve built and remain focused on continuing to elevate the resort for our guests.”

The resort spans more than 1,200 acres along the southern shores of Lake Lanier. It offers a range of accommodations, dining options and recreational amenities. Guests can stay at Legacy Lodge, Legacy Villas or the LakeHouses. Furthermore, they can enjoy on-site features such as a spa, golf course, pickleball courts and indoor entertainment at Game Changer.

Additional attractions are available through Margaritaville at Lanier Islands, which includes a beach, marina and water park.

The resort has also received recognition from several other organizations, including ConventionSouth, Georgia Business Journal and GolfPass. It has also received wedding industry honors from The Knot and WeddingWire.

Voting for the 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards is open through June 30. Winners will be announced in October and published in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler.
