A large number of law enforcement from the Gwinnett County Police Department were seen on Wednesday afternoon, June 22, in the vicinity of Hamilton Mill Road and South Bogan Road in Buford.
Readers of the North Gwinnett Voice were quick to contact the newspaper to report what they witnessed. They said the police presence included special operations units, including a K-9 unit, with police cars lined up almost to Bart Johnson Road.
The information given to the North Gwinnett Voice by civilians was that this stemmed from a stolen car, and that one of the young adults fled on foot.
The Gwinnett County Police Department was contacted by the North Gwinnett Voice about the incident. Sergeant J.R. Richter, a public information officer with the department, said the department received a call from someone who said that their teenage child had a friend staying with them at their home. The caller stated they were afraid the friend might be a runaway and they thought the vehicle they were using was stolen.
“When the officers tried to make contact at the location, several people ran away on foot,” Richter said. “There were multiple units on the perimeter with assistance from the air unit and there was a K9 team tracking.”
Police were able to take the suspect into custody.
