Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful, an environmentally focused nonprofit, has announced several sites for the drop-off of live-cut trees leading up to its Bring One for the Chipper 2021 event.
One of the largest “tree-cycling” events in the state, live-cut Christmas trees that festively decorated homes for the holidays will be collected throughout January leading up to an event where the trees will be cut up into mulch.
Schelly Marlatt, executive director for Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful, said Bring One for the Chipper is one of the best examples of the nonprofit fulfilling its mission of “connecting people and resources for a sustainable Gwinnett.”
“Instead of taking up space in our landfills where live Christmas trees may take decades to decompose, trees that are ‘tree-cycled’ on January 30 will be given a new life right here in our community,” Marlatt said. “The mulched trees will one day line pathways in a local park or help beautify the flower beds around our schools and public buildings.”
Live-cut Christmas trees with all decorations removed will be accepted at the following fire stations through Jan. 25, 2021:
- Fire Station 26, 6075 Suwanee Dam Road, Sugar Hill
- Fire Station 21, 474 Old Peachtree Road, Suwanee
- Fire Station 14, 1600 Highway 23, Buford
- Fire Station 24, 2735 Mall of Georgia Boulevard, Buford
- Fire Station 29, 2800 Thompson Mill Road, Buford
- Fire Station 17, 2739 Brooks Road, Dacula
- Fire Station 27, 2825 Old Fountain Road, Dacula
- Fire Station 18, 1515 Mineral Springs Road, Hoschton
The Bring One for the Chipper 2021 event will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2020, at Bethesda Park at 225 Bethesda Church Road in Lawrenceville. Volunteers are needed for the event, and registration is being offered online at www.gwinnettcb.org.
“We have several events under our belt since COVID-19 hit Gwinnett County, and we have a solid plan in place to safeguard our participants on January 30,” Marlatt said. “Volunteers can be as young as 14 years old, so Bring One for the Chipper could become a new addition to treasured holiday traditions that local families look forward to sharing each year.”
