Buford sophomore Mackenzie Pickens was on fire at-bat in Buford’s game against Winder-Barrow on Thursday, Sept. 23 as she popped off two home runs. The Lady Wolves would go on to defeat the Lady Bulldoggs 17-5 after just four innings in a Region 8-AAAAAA game.
Sophomore pitcher Emma Grace Williams (7-0) had a great game pitching all four innings where she struck out five batters.
Mackenzie Pickens hit a three-run home run in the first inning and then a two-run home run in the third inning. Those were her sixth and seventh home runs of the season. She wound up being intentionally walked in her last at-bat. Pickens earned five RBIs and scored four runs. Senior Taylor Malvin also had a great night at the plate going 3-for-3 with a game-opening double and scoring three points for the Lady Wolves. She earned an RBI during the game as well.
Other offensive standouts for Buford were senior Olivia Haag (2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored) and sophomore Adriana Martinez (2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored).
Buford’s overall season record improves to 15-2-1 and 7-2 in Region 8-AAAAAA.
The Lady Wolves will have a non-region game on Monday, Sept. 27 at North Forysth, the No. 1 team in Class AAAAAAA. The game starts at 5 p.m.
