LAKE LANIER — A severe storm rolled through the area around Lake Lanier on Monday afternoon producing heavy rain, lightning, strong winds, and even microbursts. It was a microburst that slammed into two marinas on the lake causing heavy damages to docks and boats.
The two marinas that were impacted were Holiday Marina near Lake Lanier Islands and Aqualand Marina in Flowery Branch. At this time no other marinas are reporting damages.
The heaviest damage appears to be at Aqualand according to reports from boaters in the area. Docks L, M, and N all have major damage at Aqualand. R, U, V, and ZK Docks have some damage as well. Dock 6 at Holiday has detached and there are reports of power lines down making conditions dangerous. L Dock and Dock 4 at Holiday have damage as well. These are the docks that have been reported to us at this time.
There are multiple trees down around the docks at these marinas.
Aqualand and Holiday have been turning people away periodically due to dangerous conditions. If you are headed to either one of these marinas, it is advised to call first to see if they are allowing people to enter the marina.
Stay tuned. We will update this story as more information is received.
