BUFORD 8 WINDER-BARROW 5
BUFORD — Buford and Winder-Barrow finally got to play the game they were originally supposed to play on Thursday but it got washed out. Buford came from behind to beat Winder-Barrow 8-5 on Monday night at the Buford Softball Complex.
Freshman Emma Grace Williams (3-0) was on the mound for the Wolves. She pitched seven innings giving up six hits, five runs (unearned), struck out seven, and walked one.
Buford struck first scoring three runs in the first inning, one of them a home run by Chloe Hatcher, her first varsity homer. Winder-Barrow answered back in the top of the second inning scoring five runs of their own. The Bulldoggs were aided by a throwing error and a wild pitch by the Wolves. In the bottom of the fourth, Buford would come back and add five runs to their score. Both sides didn’t allow any further runs.
Leading Buford (5-2, 2-0) offensively was junior Taylor Malvin who went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI, scored two runs and stole a base. Hatcher was 1-for-3 with her two-run home run, three RBIs, and one run scored. Freshman Madison Pickens was 1-for-2 at the plate where she earned two RBIs, scored a run, and stole a base. Sophomore Emma Castorri rounds out the offensive standouts for Buford going 2-for-3, scoring a run and stealing two bases.
