New details emerge in Sugar Hill homicide

SUGAR HILL — The Gwinnett County Police Department has released new details in the homicide that occurred at 5811 Kendrix Ridge Drive in Sugar Hill.  The incident took place on October 4 shortly after 10 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Sukkee Hong, age 49.  Mr. Hong is an Asian male that lived in the home where the crime took place.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe that Mr. Hong was shot by an unknown number of suspects as he was exiting his car inside the garage of the home,” Cpl. Michele Pihera, Gwinnett PD Public Information Officer said.

Members of his family found Mr. Hong unresponsive in the garage following the incident. The call came into 9-1-1 as a medical call and the Gwinnett County Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.  When they arrived and examined the victim, they found the gunshot wound.  He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

According to Cpl. Pihera, investigators are still trying to determine if anything was stolen from Mr. Hong during the incident.

Mr. Hong is the owner of a check-cashing business in Lithonia.  Detectives are looking into the possibility that this incident might be connected to his business.

The investigation related to Mr. Hong’s death is still ongoing.
