At an Aug. 6 meeting with the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, an I-985 interchange was approved at Thompson Mill Rd.
The new ramps will provide relief and easier access to motorists in the area. It will sit between the State Route 20 (exit four) and Lanier Islands Pkwy. (exit eight) ramps.
The project also brings an easier access to motorists to Buford City Schools. It sits miles from Buford High School on Buford Highway.
An agreement was made with the Georgia Department of Transportation for project engineering procedures. It provides a $2 million contribution from the Atlanta Regional Commission. A required match of $500,000 comes from SPLOST funds.
In addition, engineering design services and construction document development contract of $4.25 million was awarded to the Thomas & Hutton Engineering Company. This is funded 53% by SPLOST funds and 47% by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
