The Atlantic Coast Conference announced last week its 2022 preseason All-ACC football team, and Suwanee native Josh Downs made the list.
Downs is a Class of 2020 graduate of North Gwinnett High School and is a wide receiver for the North Carolina Tar Heels football team.
Downs received the most votes out of all the players named to the preseason team with 128 at the wide receiver position. He also earned 56 votes at the team specialist position.
In his 2021 season, Downs broke North Carolina program records with 101 receptions and 1,335 receiving yards, which earned him first-team All-ACC honors. Downs led the ACC in receptions and was second in the conference in receiving yards. Nationally, he was ranked fifth in receptions and 11th in receiving yards.
While at North Gwinnett High School, Downs racked up impressive stats. During his high school career, he had 187 receptions for 3,019 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Football runs strong in the Downs’ family as his younger brother, Alabama commit Caleb Downs, is the state of Georgia’s No. 1 player in the Class of 2023, according to Sports Illustrated.
