On Wednesday, May 11, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced its 2022 scholarship winners, and three North Gwinnett High School students will receive $2,500 toward their college studies.
The students and their areas of interest are:
- Albert Doan — Engineering
- Jennifer Jang — Law
- Ellie Park — Academia
All three were chosen from more than 15,000 finalists within the National Merit Scholarship Program.
“National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies,” a news release states.
The students were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who evaluated information submitted by the students and their high schools, including their academic records (difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned); scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the student; and a recommendation written by a high school official.
