BUFORD — Sophomore Olivia Duncan (pictured above) pitches her sixth shutout of the season which came in Game 3 of the third round of the GHSA Class AAAAAA State Playoffs against River Ridge. Buford would finish the game with a final score of 3-0 advancing Buford to the Elite Eight.
Duncan (12-2) pitched seven innings for Buford allowing six hits, no runs scored, and no walks. She was the winning pitcher for both of the Wolves’ two wins in this round of the playoffs.
Buford got on the board in the second inning after sophomore Chloe Hatcher and junior Shamya Young walked and then freshman Tavye Borders hit an infield single to score Hatcher. It would be the fifth inning when Buford would next cross home plate. Junior Taylor Malvin was the first up to bat and hit a single up the middle. Next batter for Buford would be freshman Mackenzie Pickens who would blast a two-run home run to put Buford up 3-0.
Buford (30-5) advances to the Elite Eight which is the Wolves’ 16th straight appearance in the Elite Eight, their 17th since the program’s inception in 2002. Buford will travel to play a doubleheader against South Effingham on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
