On January 24, 2019, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a pedestrian was hit by a car at the intersection of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Nelson Brogdon Boulevard/GA Highway 20 in Sugar Hill. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene and found the 28-year-old Sugar Hill resident in serious condition.
Police questioned the 17-year-old driver of the car that struck the pedestrian. The driver told police that “he had a green light and out of nowhere struck the pedestrian.” Witnesses were able to verify the driver’s account of the incident stating that the pedestrian came running out into oncoming traffic.
The pedestrian was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with serious injuries. He is expected to recover. Police questioned him at the hospital about what he remembered of the incident. He told police that “all he remembers is crossing the street and everything going black.”
No one else was injured in the accident that closed down the intersection of Peachtree Industrial and Highway 20 for two hours. Following the police officer’s investigation, the pedestrian was found to be at fault. He was given a citation at Gwinnett Medical Center for “crossing a roadway other than sidewalk.” The driver was found to be not at fault and no citations were issued to him.
