The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office has issued a new alert to the public about rising phone scams.

Recent attempts to fool callers have been using a fictitious name, “Sgt. Kerr” in attempts to convince citizens that they have missed federal subpoenas or failed to appear for jury duty. The phone number linked to this fraud is 770-215-0734.

Once contact has been established, the scammer attempts to get the caller to pay $1,500 to “be removed from the federal docket or to have their fictitious warrant recalled for missing jury duty.”

They GCSO wants to assure the public that all of this is “false information”.

“Sergeant Kerr” is not a person associated with or employed by the Sheriff’s Office; and, the phone number 770-215-0734 is likewise unaffiliated and fraudulent

In their updated alert issued Dec. 1 they warned, “If you receive a phone call from anyone using this name or anyone from this number, immediately end the call and do not under any circumstances provide the individual with any of your personal information. In the event that you miss jury duty, the Sheriff’s Office and the Courts will not contact you by phone. All correspondence in reference to jury duty will be conducted via mail.
